Topic: Exchange connection considerations
Moderator: What version of Exchange are you using? Are there any challenges connecting iPhones to Exchange that are worth noting?
Man: We use Exchange 2010 SP1 and have no problems on our end with active sync. Android however, yes there are challenges. I know that is not the question but in case anybody is looking at Android phones there seems to be some kind of bug or issue where we frequently have to reset people’s Active Sync accounts on their phones because the push email stops working for no reason. This has happened on multiple devices. As for iPhones active sync works perfect. We have never had a problem with it.
Max S.: There are differences in the capabilities between the older versions of Exchange so 2010 is the most robust as far as the policies that you can push to a phone.
Pat W.: We are on 2003 now and we are actually in the beginning phases of upgrading to 2010. I was just curious to see if anybody was still trying to do it on an older version. I think I got my question answered. Everybody is going to 2010 when they are talking about all of these other devices.
Max S.: You should definitely go with 2010. I am starting to think that the new Webmail that came with SP1 the update can almost replace Outlook. Webmail is really good.
Pat W.: We use Webmail now so that is good to hear.
Max S.: Yes, amazing improvements including one that I really like, which a lot of people might like. You know when your password expires in AD, the only way to reset it is to log into a Windows machine and it gives you your password, etc.. Webmail now allows you to reset those passwords as well. So if you have remote users you no longer have to ask them to remote desktop in or reset the password for them. Just send them a Webmail link and they just log in here. It will prompt them on the Webmail to reset their password. That was a godsend for us.
Pat W.: That may have just been worth the cost of this phone call. We deal with that with remote users and that is a really good tip,
Max S.: I found out about that after we upgraded and that was a great day!
