Virtual Desktop Infrastructure
Interest in Virtual Desktop Infrastructure is strong and growing based on participation in the July 13, 2010 NOREX VDI WebForum.
20% of organizations participating in the WebForum have already implemented VDI, with 16% planning to implement and 55% exploring VDI. The primary drivers for going virtual at the desktop include:
- enabling applications that don't work on Citrix devices
- enhancing remote access capabilities
- reducing long-term hardware expense
Where will you likely encounter the most resistance when adopting VDI? One member with a very large VDI environment says the IT staff initially was the most reluctant, not wanting to give up their laptops. Once they learned they could access the network from anywhere, they quickly became believers!
